Jeanette, Chapter 22

Sergio, Out!

After an uneventful, alien-less day at work, I received a call from Sergio, asking me out to dinner at the Pelican. “Fine,” I thought.  Maybe I should just give in and start dating this twerp.  He *was* the first person who’d talked to me when I arrived here, but he’s just so … so… Sergio.

Anyway, it’s a nice evening out.

I got in line to book a table, and the place started filling up.

I mean, it’s like everyone arrived at the restaurant at exactly the same time.  Odd.

Anyway, we ordered and had a good chat.  Maybe, Serge isn’t such a twerp after all.

I was telling Sergio about my day at the lab, explaining a little bit about my latest experiments, when he stood up suddenly.

“Uh… just a sec Jeanette, I just…”

“I mean, I um… I need to…”

“Now where’s my … it’s just…”

He left the restaurant, and just kept going. I could still hear him mumbling as he walked away.

Fricken’ jerk. You’re dead to me, Serge.

I paid the bill (thanks Sergio!), and went home to bed.

Jeanette, Chapter 15

Renos, and a New Girl?

Sitting at the breakfast … stool… this morning, I just couldn’t handle the original brick any longer.  So, with a quick phone call and no small amount of cash, I resurfaced the interior and exterior walls.

11-11-16_3-09-47-pm I think it looks pretty good.

11-11-16_3-10-07-pmAfter that, I figured it was time to get out of the house for the remainder of this beautiful day.  I took a trip to the new park over in Newcrest.

11-11-16_3-18-38-pmNice place, with lots of amenities and places to hang out.

11-11-16_3-19-52-pmAnd a bar.  You gotta love a park with a bar.

11-11-16_3-28-05-pm Caitlyn’s wife Teagan was hanging around, making veggie burgers. As I finished up collecting rare gems, Teagan invited me over for a bite.

11-11-16_3-28-45-pm Cassandra was invited too, but instead she just stood around moping about things.  Seriously kid, you’re a downer.  But then Creepy Guy showed up, with a serious shine on for Teagan.

11-11-16_3-29-03-pm Nobody invited him, and we all really tried to ignore him.  I was torn between trying to be friendly, and asking him to *please* stop staring at Teagan and breathing heavily. “Hi,” he’d say.  “Hi.   Hi.”

11-11-16_3-29-40-pmI tried answering him, but was met with silence and glares.  Teagan managed to ignore him completely, and eventually we all left him sitting there with the burgers, and went our ways.

I went home for a while, to do some reading and catching up on the household chores.  Just as I was thinking of dinner, I got a call from Kimberly, who wanted to know if I’d like to head out to eat.

11-11-16_3-56-12-pm I met her down at the Pelican, which is seriously starting to feel like a second home.  Oh… third, I guess, after the lab.

11-11-16_3-56-30-pmI spotted Myron, out on the deck, on a date. Hrmph.

11-11-16_4-02-40-pm I had a great time with Kimberly. She made it no secret that she was interested in me, which is something I’d not considered much.  But still… the attention felt good, after all the jerks I’ve been trying to date.

11-11-16_4-02-58-pm 11-11-16_4-08-04-pmA couple of glasses of wine and some desert later, we realised we’d talked well into the night. I needed to work in the morning. Again, apparently.  Didn’t I work last week?

11-11-16_4-09-47-pm I thanked her for an amazing evening, but schlepped my way back to the island.

11-11-16_4-10-26-pm

I should get a car.

Jeanette, Chapter 8

Oh Barf

I awoke relatively early this morning, and remembered I had invented a simray.  Steve, the SimRay.  This was a fairly important event, I think. On Friday, I’d added that “transform” setting, so thought I’d try it out on my bed.

11-07-16_12-31-07-pmSay… that’s a *much* nicer bed than it was earlier. That thing must be worth more than all the money I have in the world currently!  I bet I could sell it and buy a kitchen.  Oh, but it’s so much more comfortable than it was.  I’ll think about it.

11-07-16_1-39-25-pmNobody opened a breakfast place in the time since yesterday afternoon, so I returned to the Pelican, where grumpy Mr Kim led me to this table out over the pool.  I couldn’t decide what I wanted this early in the morning, so I settled for a cup of coffee and a bowl of clam chowder.

11-07-16_1-41-11-pmI know what you’re thinking.  Clam chowder for breakfast?  And if I was going to just have chowder, why didn’t I go back to the Chowder House?  I’ll tell you why; Bacon.  The Pelican’s clam chowder is full of bacon.  Bacon, cream, potatoes, and clams.  That’s practically breakfast food anyway.

11-07-16_1-42-48-pmBut for some reason, one of the waitresses collected all the dirty dishes, and left them on my table, and on the floor beside me.  No, seriously; a big pile of dirty dishes, stinking up my breakfast.

11-07-16_1-43-13-pmLuckily, her co-worker came running over and cleaned them up, apologizing for the other’s incompetence.  I asked if the other waitress’ name was Meagan and laughed.  The waitress asked me to leave.

11-07-16_1-46-00-pm

I took a stroll over the the Chess Park (!), and had a few games with Katie, a woman I’d met at the library yesterday. She seems nice, married, with a small child, and a love of chess.

11-07-16_1-46-58-pmWe played for a few hours, until I received a phone call from Caitlyn, who invited me down to the gym for a workout.

11-07-16_2-02-52-pmCaitlyn met me at the gym, and we headed in.

11-07-16_2-04-48-pmThe workout felt great.  Caitlyn coached me through a few things, then went off to the punching bags.  I stayed at the machine for a bit, until …

11-07-16_2-05-13-pm… something just didn’t feel right.  I was pretty sure I was about to throw up.  Something about that breakfast chowder wasn’t sitting right.

11-07-16_2-05-44-pmI called the restaurant right away, letting them know that the chowder might have gone off.  They assured me that everything was fine, nobody else was sick, and they were refunding the cost of my meal and another $300 to keep quiet.  I should drink plenty of water.

“Just because!  It’s a great idea.  Drink plenty of water.  Everyone should.  But especially you right now.   Feel better!  Ah!  But not for anything our restaurant or its employees did.  HAVEANICEDAYThankyouforcalling.” <click>

Well, great.  Just as long as I don’t …

11-07-16_2-09-29-pm-2Great.

11-07-16_2-09-50-pmWell, that certainly wasn’t pleasant.  I cleaned myself up, and felt quite a bit better after … letting it all out.  I may just survive this.

11-07-16_2-13-49-pmOut in the hallway, I bumped into a nice man who introduced himself as Bob … something-or-other.  We had a great chat about the gym, and its patrons. I bragged a bit about surviving food poisoning, and he seemed honestly impressed.

11-07-16_2-14-31-pmOh, look who it is.  Meagan.

11-07-16_2-15-07-pmHello…. Meagan.

11-07-16_2-15-15-pm(bitch)

“What?”

“Nothing!  Bench!  Bob here was telling me about the bench.”

“Hmf.”

11-07-16_2-45-12-pmHungry again – finally – I took a trip to a local bar where I ran into Nancy Landgraab, who introduced me to … Sam.  Samuel?  Samuel Something.  Anyway, there wasn’t any food available here, so we both – Sam and I – headed off to the Chowder House for dinner.

11-07-16_2-49-26-pmI ordered the fish and chips (I don’t think I could handle any more chowder), and Sam … Sven?  Martin?  … asked for a burger.

“I’ll have the … sea burger?  Fish burger?  What do you call it?”

“Chicken burger?”

“Yes! That’s it.  With fries please.”

11-07-16_2-49-43-pmI see the Landgraabs eat here too.  That’s good to know.

11-07-16_2-50-30-pmAs we waited for our meal, I took a trip to the washroom to freshen up some. I returned, to see that Maxwell, or Samwell or whatever was not there!

11-07-16_2-50-38-pmSeriously? I mean, it wasn’t a date or anything, but I did pay for food he hadn’t eaten … did he just grab all the food and take off!?

11-07-16_2-51-14-pmAh.  No, he’s just outside, chatting up a couple of women.  Class act, Sam.

11-07-16_2-52-21-pmThe food arrived, and Samwise was actually a decent conversationalist.  However, it turns out he’s a “entrepreneurial music enthusiast”.  An unemployed musician.  Fine.  Well, the meal was nice anyway, and I haven’t got food poisoning from it yet.  I said goodnight to my new friend, and thanked him for a nice evening.

11-07-16_2-57-06-pmBut, morning comes early, as mornings tend to do, and I really should sleep before Monday begins.

11-07-16_3-04-10-pmDamn, this transformed bed is *really* comfy.  Maybe I’ll sell it tomorrow, but not … not, quite… well, maybe.

“We’ll see.”

Aw dammit.  I forgot to call Georgia.

chapter 9 …

Jeanette, Chapter 6

We Came To Dance

11-06-16_5-51-26-pmUp bright and early this morning, feeling great, if a bit hungry.  I’ll be very happy when I can afford things like … a fridge.  A stove, maybe.  Walls.

11-06-16_5-52-08-pm
11-06-16_5-55-36-pmI had plenty of time before work this morning, so I headed over to the cafe for breakfast.

11-06-16_5-56-53-pmWhen I tried ordering, the woman behind the counter announced that she was on a coffee break.  Or a break from coffee, I don’t remember.  I was hungry and under-caffeinated.  I had to wait until her co-worker showed up before I could order a cup and a croissant.

11-06-16_5-59-14-pmTHAT’S better.  I might not kill anyone at work today, Meagan.

11-06-16_6-07-27-pmI sat for a while talking to some of the neighbours, enjoying the company and the coffee.  But, eventually I needed to get to work.

11-06-16_6-42-28-pmIt was “collection day” at the office, which really had me nervous over the return of the aliens.  That happened, right?  I’m not just imagining it, I’m certain.  Anyway, no what they meant was rocks and things.  I was getting quite proficient in digging things up.

11-06-16_6-45-00-pmBut apparently “collecting” also included collecting fish.  I’ve never been fishing in my life, and it wasn’t’ something I had ever put on a list of things I’d wanted to do before I die.

11-06-16_6-45-43-pmBut suddenly there I was, trying to convince fish they needed to come with me.  I figured I’d just sneak up on them when they were trying to sleep, and just pull them out of their home in the water and into my OH MY GOD I’M THE ALIEN!  I’M ABDUCTING FISH.  I put them all back.

11-06-16_6-47-21-pmInside, I watched as Caitlyn broke the computer, then just walked away to play with the microscope.  We’re both going to blame Meagan.

11-06-16_8-50-58-pm“Meagan sure did break that computer, alright,” Caitlyn mentioned.  I needed to upgrade by simray Steve, to include a transformative setting.  Time to see if that works.

11-06-16_8-54-09-pmI decided to try it out on one of the office chairs.  I fired it up, but Summer started talking, distracting me as I let loose.  I’m surprised I didn’t transform the entire building into a potato or some such.

11-06-16_8-54-21-pmWell, that worked.  Nice chair.

11-06-16_8-59-54-pmTime for lunch with Summer, with Meagan pretending not to be listening.  The first week at work is almost over, and while I love my job and – most – of the co-workers, I look forward to the weekend, and blowing off a little steam.

11-06-16_9-03-56-pmAnd hey, it’s Friday night!  The night is relatively young, time to hit the local disco for some fun with the girls!  Georgia showed up with us, but turned and left once she saw the crowd and the lasers.  She said something about “collection night”, and wandered off.

11-06-16_9-05-43-pmThe place was jumping!

11-06-16_9-11-57-pmOh look, there’s Serge.  Wonderful.  Luckily he ignored me and tried dancing with a number of other women, who spent the evening trying to avoid him.

11-06-16_9-10-58-pm

11-06-16_9-08-22-pm
Looking fabulous, ladies.

But, the night was drawing to a close, and after a few hours dancing and hanging with my friends, I really needed to get something to eat, and head to bed.

11-07-16_8-45-58-amWhat a beautiful place, I’m so happy I decided to move here. Luckily there’s a restaurant not far from the club.

11-07-16_8-50-59-amYes, I know it’s quarter past 1 in the morning, Mr Kim, but your sign clearly says “Open”, and so was the door.  And you’re standing here at the front counter.  And the chef is busy in the kitchen, and there are PEOPLE EATING HERE. Stop being such a grump.

(ed. It wasn’t until I was adding these screenshots that I realised I’d turned on “capture the UI” and forgot to turn it off again.  Too late…)

11-07-16_8-51-52-amMenu looks nice, and the prices are reasonable.  Well… reasonable for someone who can afford walls.  It’s going to take a chunk of my bank account, but I really need to eat.

11-07-16_8-57-03-amIt took over an hour for the food to get here, considering there were three people sitting out on the patio, and they already had food.  But finally, it arrived; a nice glass of wine and some poached salmon.

11-07-16_8-58-23-amSigh.  Dinner was fantastic.  So was this fork.  What a great fork.  The waitress took away the dishes, but I asked to keep the fork for a while longer.  I love you, fork.

11-07-16_8-59-41-amTime to get home though.  Four o’clock on a Saturday morning, and I finally hit the streets for the slog back to my pretty lot on the Island.  What a fantastic evening!  Here’s to a weekend off!
