Jeanette, Chapter 15

Renos, and a New Girl?

Sitting at the breakfast … stool… this morning, I just couldn’t handle the original brick any longer.  So, with a quick phone call and no small amount of cash, I resurfaced the interior and exterior walls.

11-11-16_3-09-47-pm I think it looks pretty good.

11-11-16_3-10-07-pmAfter that, I figured it was time to get out of the house for the remainder of this beautiful day.  I took a trip to the new park over in Newcrest.

11-11-16_3-18-38-pmNice place, with lots of amenities and places to hang out.

11-11-16_3-19-52-pmAnd a bar.  You gotta love a park with a bar.

11-11-16_3-28-05-pm Caitlyn’s wife Teagan was hanging around, making veggie burgers. As I finished up collecting rare gems, Teagan invited me over for a bite.

11-11-16_3-28-45-pm Cassandra was invited too, but instead she just stood around moping about things.  Seriously kid, you’re a downer.  But then Creepy Guy showed up, with a serious shine on for Teagan.

11-11-16_3-29-03-pm Nobody invited him, and we all really tried to ignore him.  I was torn between trying to be friendly, and asking him to *please* stop staring at Teagan and breathing heavily. “Hi,” he’d say.  “Hi.   Hi.”

11-11-16_3-29-40-pmI tried answering him, but was met with silence and glares.  Teagan managed to ignore him completely, and eventually we all left him sitting there with the burgers, and went our ways.

I went home for a while, to do some reading and catching up on the household chores.  Just as I was thinking of dinner, I got a call from Kimberly, who wanted to know if I’d like to head out to eat.

11-11-16_3-56-12-pm I met her down at the Pelican, which is seriously starting to feel like a second home.  Oh… third, I guess, after the lab.

11-11-16_3-56-30-pmI spotted Myron, out on the deck, on a date. Hrmph.

11-11-16_4-02-40-pm I had a great time with Kimberly. She made it no secret that she was interested in me, which is something I’d not considered much.  But still… the attention felt good, after all the jerks I’ve been trying to date.

11-11-16_4-02-58-pm 11-11-16_4-08-04-pmA couple of glasses of wine and some desert later, we realised we’d talked well into the night. I needed to work in the morning. Again, apparently.  Didn’t I work last week?

11-11-16_4-09-47-pm I thanked her for an amazing evening, but schlepped my way back to the island.

11-11-16_4-10-26-pm

I should get a car.

Jeanette, Chapter 14

The Day Bar

Ah!  The weekend!  I spent most of Saturday morning asleep, then puttered around the house for a while. The night before was a lot of fun, and I really needed more of that.

11-11-16_1-15-15-pm So, later that afternoon, I headed out to the lounge in Oasis Springs.  Maybe the crowd there will be a little different, meet some new faces.

11-11-16_1-17-14-pmOkay, so “crowd” wasn’t the right word. Perhaps I shouldn’t start drinking at 2 in the afternoon, but … meh.  For the first half hour or so, the only other person in the place was one old woman, sitting at the bar, reading.  Then young Santa here showed up.  I thought it was going to be one of THOSE nights.

11-11-16_1-18-23-pm Eventually, other folk started arriving.  I still needed to do some serum testing, and figured that tonight would be as good a time as any, so I downed one of the Flirty Juice things.  Time to get into a mood.

11-11-16_1-23-08-pm Hey.  How YOU…

11-11-16_1-23-14-pmOh.  Okay.

11-11-16_1-29-05-pm Fine.  Well, I’m going to socialise with whomever I can.  I’m feeling all flirty-like, and *someone* is going to eventually reciprocate. You jerks.

11-11-16_1-33-09-pm Later in the evening Myron dropped in, and introduced me to Kimberly. We’d bumped into each other previously, at the library mostly, but I don’t think I’d ever actually spoken with her.  “Great”, I thought.  “Finally meet another guy, and he’s not single.”  Could have told me that last night.  Jerk.  However, it turns out that they’re just friends.

11-11-16_1-30-20-pmSo while Baldy there ignored my advances, (yet he still just kept hanging around) I turned my charm on to … dammit!  Myron left.  Young Santa’s just not my type.

Meanwhile, the comedian was just killing it!

11-11-16_1-34-08-pm Killing it!  Get it!?  Yeah, sorry.  Anyway, this guy died.

11-11-16_1-34-39-pm The comedian began rethinking her career choices.

11-11-16_1-40-27-pm So while many of the older locals mourned the loss of … the old-now-dead guy, I had no idea who he was, nor did Kimberly or Skylar.

11-11-16_1-43-26-pmEventually, Grim left with the guy’s soul, and the place emptied. I suppose nobody wanted to party any longer after that show-stopper.  Skylar, Kimberly, and I stayed late into the night talking about it, and many other things.  After all that, Kim was the only one who actually flirted at me.   She was older than I – by quite a bit, I think – but seemed to know what she wanted. It was nice, but weird.

I gave up, and went home.

Jeanette, Chapter 13

A Date Gone Awry

11-11-16_9-36-40-am At work the next morning, I confronted Caitlyn about her actions the day before. She was very apologetic, but had received a call just before arriving at the cafe. It seems that the lab had been contacted by aliens, and she was needed at once. It was above my pay grade, so I wasn’t needed.  I don’t know why Shelley was hanging around outside the lab today, but there she was.

11-11-16_9-37-13-amI forgave Caitlyn for taking off on me, and we hugged it out.

The rest of the day at worked passed uneventfully, and I left feeling good about my job.  When I arrived at home, Rashawn called me up (Sam’s name was Rashawn) and invited me out to the Shrieking Llama for drinks and games.

11-11-16_10-26-17-am“Absolutely!” I said.  It sounded like fun.

11-11-16_10-46-11-am It wasn’t.  At least, not to begin with.  Ol’ Rashawn spent the first hour or so watching the soccer match. His team wasn’t doing well, from what I understand.  There was a lot of yelling and cursing, and mother-llama-ing the referees. Eventually, whichever sports club he was cheering for lost their game, and the bar staff turned on the figure skating competition.

11-11-16_10-46-22-amRashawn wasn’t happy, and he left shortly thereafter.  Jerk.  Well, that was your last chance buddy.  Don’t call me again.

11-11-16_10-47-41-amAnd that’s when Myron spotted me. Or, at least that’s when I spotted Myron spotting me. He bought me a drink, and let me know that the guy I came in with was a jerk. Preaching to the choir, my friend, but thanks.

11-11-16_10-50-26-am He challenged me to a game of foosball, to which I accepted. I needed to whack at things and blow off some steam.

11-11-16_11-07-41-am The game was wicked.  We were evenly matched, and the bar patrons started noticing.

11-11-16_11-09-46-amEventually he beat me with a score of 21-20.  By the time we finished, the bar was closing up, and I was exhausted.  I headed home to bed, alone still, but feeling good.

Jeanette, Chapter 12

She Skipped Skipping

Up bright and early on a Thursday morning, I showered, messed about on the computer for a while, and was about to make breakfast when I got a call from Caitlyn.

“Hey! It’s a beautiful day out there, it would be a shame to waste it.  You want to blow it off and go get some breakfast?”

I thought about it for a moment. We were supposed to be at work in half an hour, but the thought of spending the day wasting time with Caitlyn sounded great.

“Sure!” I said.  “There’s a great little cafe just around the corner.  Meet you there?”

“On my way!”

11-10-16_5-21-18-pm We arrived, and I called in “sick” to the lab.  But before I could get off the phone …

11-11-16_1-59-50-am… Caitlyn left.  She just … left.  No words, no “goodbye’, or “psych!” or maniacal laughter or nuthin’.  Just … gone.  Fine.  I’m still having breakfast.

11-11-16_2-06-03-am It’s a nice little cafe, in the forest on the island.  They still do a brisk business out here.

11-11-16_2-06-59-am A couple cups of coffee, a croissant, and some good conversation.  That’s always a great morning.

11-11-16_2-07-36-amOur barista Don, looked fabulous in his uniform.  Nice shoes.  You do you, Don.  You do you.

11-11-16_2-19-39-am To add some more buggering-about to the day, I returned to the scene of my first bed, the spa.  This time, as a paying customer!

11-11-16_2-25-39-am Ahhh… I relaxed.  There was some exercising involved, as well as a lot of swimming around enjoying the afternoon.

11-11-16_2-28-49-amI ended my time at the spa sitting on the roof, meditating. It was a marvelous, relaxing day.

11-11-16_2-34-36-am As the afternoon drew to a close, I wandered over to the library to see who’s hanging around.  The place was fairly empty, but it looks like all those rogue books have finally been cleaned up.

11-11-16_2-45-09-am I returned home for some dinner, and some experimentation. I was feeling somewhat guilty about skipping work, but still cheesed at Caitlyn for asking me to skip work, and then abandoning me.  If she’s at work tomorrow, I’ll have to ask her what the hell she was doing.

11-11-16_2-54-49-am

Just before going to bed, I took out This Thing. I found it while digging for minerals, and while I could just sell it off for a couple of bucks, I wondered what I could turn it into.

11-11-16_2-54-55-am

Woo!  What do we…

11-11-16_2-55-58-amDammit.  It turned into some sort of interdimensional scarf, which proceeded to fall *through* the counter, and then set fire to it.  I’m just not having luck with this damn thing lately.

I’m going to bed.

Jeanette, Chapter 11

Our New Stortraketfartyg

11-10-16_4-10-23-pm I got to work this morning, to find Summer standing around outside. She wouldn’t come in, speaking something about “aliens” and “re-org”, then ran away quickly.  I’ll have to find out what’s going on.

11-10-16_4-12-29-pmInside, I was a little surprised to see Caitlyn acting as receptionist, considering she’s one of our more experienced scientists here.  Summer’s run off, and Caitlyn’s answering the phones?  Am I still working here?

11-10-16_4-14-29-pmMeagan isn’t anywhere to be found either, and the inventor robot’s been broken.  She must have taken off after damaging the thing; it’s an expensive and intelligent piece of equipment, and I certainly hope she isn’t deliberately sabotaging this stuff.

11-10-16_4-15-09-pmLuckily, I know how to fix these things now, but it still takes a lot of time away from what I *should* be doing.

11-10-16_4-26-24-pmFor instance, someone delivered a rocket (from Ikea apparently) several weeks ago, and nobody’s thought to read the directions yet.

11-10-16_4-26-49-pmI spent a few hours hammering away at the thing, and managed to figure out most of the parts.  Yeah, there were some pieces left over, but I’m sure they’re spares or something.

11-10-16_4-28-57-pmEventually the boss came out to tell me how hungry he is.  I really don’t care, sir.  Go eat something.  I’m not your mommy.

On the way home, I figured I had enough money saved up now, I could by a desk.

11-10-16_4-35-12-pmThey were having a sale, so I picked up some nice pictures, and now have a great place to get some computer things done.

11-10-16_4-36-42-pm On the off chance, I could make things better with my trusty simray Steve, I attempted to get a nice stove.  You just never know what …

11-10-16_4-36-50-pm

Wait… what?

11-10-16_4-38-23-pmAre you flippin’ kidding me?  How the… well THAT’S not going to help at all!  Getting a stove back cost me a couple of hundred that I wasn’t prepared to spend.  I have some savings right now, but I was hoping to use it for some renos.

At least my bed transformations have proven to be …

11-10-16_4-53-05-pmWHAT.  THE.  HELL?

Well, that’s going to cost me another… oh you know what?  Fork it, I’m just buying a nicer bed.

11-10-16_4-54-38-pmI’m telling you friends, spend the money on a good night’s sleep.

chapter 12 …

Jeanette, Chapter 10

THings Can Only Get Better

11-10-16_3-03-29-pm Tuesday morning, in my new kitchen!  I couldn’t be happ… well, yeah I could happier, but it’s still fantastic. The stove is a used piece of junk, but it works. The fridge smells like old cheese and dead raccoons, but … well, it’s colder than outside.  I was sure enjoying dining out, so this whole “cooking my own food” thing will take some getting used to.  But, I did always love mom’s grilled cheese, so…

11-10-16_3-05-04-pmOh, how I wish this was mom’s grilled cheese.  I hope I get better at this.

Well, Tuesday.  Work was really really boring today; all the usual experiments, analysis, collecting samples, etc.  The only thing that alleviated the monotony was a request for the creation and testing of an another anger-inducing serum. The creation was fairly routine, but I still needed to test it, on either myself – which would be a fair method, or on someone … Oh hey, Meagan.

11-10-16_3-10-18-pm No no… It’s a perfectly safe artificial food supplement.  The boss said to test it.

11-10-16_3-10-26-pmTee hee.

11-10-16_3-20-56-pmWell, it worked perfectly.   Meagan spent the remainder of the day mad as hell, and couldn’t really figure out why.  And she broke another computer.

I, on the other hand, was given another raise and title, and ended the day just a little less broke.  When I got home, there was another delivery truck from the lab waiting for me.  The lab had sent over my own chem lab!  Good thing I can’t afford furniture yet, so I know just where to put it.

11-10-16_3-33-43-pmI can’t decide if they like the work I’m doing so well, and they think I enjoy it so much, that I should have one to play with, or they think I *really* need to practice more.  Either way…. Fun With Chemicals!

11-10-16_3-35-00-pmThe raise also allowed me to purchase a small POS computer, which should really help with my gaming.  WORK.  With my work, and studying and whatever.  Yeah.  But, then I got a call from my old friend Serge, talking all excited about a fantastic dance party going on.  I calmed him down, and we headed out.

11-10-16_3-39-25-pmYour clothing choices never fail to impress, Serge.  Did you forget socks, or are you delib… ah.  Okay.  Will Tubbs be along soon to help solve crimes? Ah… but let’s face it, I’m not interested in you for your fashion sense.

11-10-16_3-41-53-pm Jumpin’!  Caitlyn and Kimberley were there already, and we danced like mad.

11-10-16_3-41-59-pmIt was a good time with friends and … wait, where’d Sergio end up?

11-10-16_3-42-39-pmOh f’r heaven’s sake, Serge! That’s a blow to the little ego. Should I remind you that you invited *me* out to dance?

11-10-16_3-42-27-pmSeriously, dude.  Wake up and dance with me!

11-10-16_3-47-01-pmGod, it took him forever, but we danced.  He’s actually a really good dancer, but by the time his moves showed up, it was after 2 in the morning.

11-10-16_3-49-05-pm I thanked him for a night out; I needed it.  Tired and reluctant, I headed home.

11-10-16_3-49-32-pmI think he was a little stunned at my departure.  Next time, don’t fall asleep on the bench, Serge.

11-10-16_3-53-25-pmDinner was another quick grilled cheese, and this one was far better than my first. Mom would be proud.

11-10-16_3-56-15-pm You know… just before bed, let’s see if this …

11-10-16_3-56-27-pmEh… whatever.  It’s a place to sleep.

chapter 11 …

Jeanette, Chapter 9

Six Beds and a Roof

11-10-16_10-59-01-am

Well, I did it anyway.  I woke up, sold my bed, and bought a cheaper one again.  This simray could really come in handy.

11-10-16_10-59-09-amShall we try that again?

11-10-16_10-59-16-amHoly Crap!  That’s a $3,800 bed!  As much as I really want to keep this, that’s more money than I can pass up.

11-10-16_11-07-43-amThis damn thing’s a money maker.

11-10-16_11-09-08-amOkay, what the heck?  After this crazy yellow thing, I got a nice little grey bed.  C’mon, I can do better…

11-10-16_11-09-56-amWhoa whoa… what …

11-10-16_11-10-05-amCrap!  What the heck happened?  I don’t have a fire extinguisher!  I mean, I can’t burn the house down, because … well, you know.  Hang on…

11-10-16_11-10-23-amRight!  Freeze ray!  Huh.  Okay, so fire’s out.  I put in a call to the insurance company, letting them know that the bed just “caught fire”.  They claimed that this particular model didn’t have a history of bursting into flames, but did agree to pay me a hundred or so in compensation.

I’m telling you; a money maker!

11-10-16_11-17-22-amOkay… one last time.

11-10-16_11-18-27-amYou know… that’s okay.  It’s not on fire.  How can I sleep if my bed is burning?  That’ll do for now.

11-10-16_11-36-41-amIt was a fairly routine shift at work, although Meagan spent literally all day sitting on the computer.  Looking for a new job, I hope.  Meanwhile *some* of us actually researched and experimented.

11-10-16_11-50-16-amSome of us did our jobs, Meagan.

11-10-16_12-36-41-pmIt was a great day.  Returning home, I realised that I now had enough money after my bed shenanigans to actually build some walls and a roof!  So here it is, my first actual home.  Walls and lights and floors and everything.

11-10-16_12-36-57-pmYeah, it’s tiny and cheap, and only has one door so when I set fire to something I might be in serious trouble, but it’s home.

11-10-16_12-37-24-pmThere was even enough to buy some cheap-as-dirt cabinets and appliances. No table yet, but the stools at the counter will do for now.  And a smoke detector.  Because I know me.

11-10-16_12-37-37-pmIt may be stark, but it’s tiny.  Gotta love that new brick smell, too.

11-10-16_12-38-36-pmThe view down the hall, from my fabulous dining area.  I finally have somewhere to put the poster I’d received from work.

11-10-16_12-37-57-pmI finally have walls around my washr… I finally have a washroom! Dry TP that hasn’t absorbed the dew all night!

11-10-16_12-38-12-pmIt’s going to feel weird sleeping in a room again, without the stars to watch as I drift off.  I’ll have to keep my windows open all night, for a while at least.

11-10-16_12-46-09-pmBut I still can’t afford things like a computer or a bookshelf.  Or any books to put on a shelf.  Luckily, I know a local place with free Internet and … books strewn all over the floor. The place was empty on a Monday night, but that let me get some gaming in, in peace.

11-10-16_12-49-52-pmI got a few hours of quiet reading in as well, followed by a half hour or so of just picking up all the fricken’ books people left lying around.  I didn’t get them all, but some.  I was getting tired and angrier every time I picked up another.  I gave up and went home.

11-10-16_12-55-08-pmIt was a very good day.

chapter 10 …

Jeanette, Chapter 8

Oh Barf

I awoke relatively early this morning, and remembered I had invented a simray.  Steve, the SimRay.  This was a fairly important event, I think. On Friday, I’d added that “transform” setting, so thought I’d try it out on my bed.

11-07-16_12-31-07-pmSay… that’s a *much* nicer bed than it was earlier. That thing must be worth more than all the money I have in the world currently!  I bet I could sell it and buy a kitchen.  Oh, but it’s so much more comfortable than it was.  I’ll think about it.

11-07-16_1-39-25-pmNobody opened a breakfast place in the time since yesterday afternoon, so I returned to the Pelican, where grumpy Mr Kim led me to this table out over the pool.  I couldn’t decide what I wanted this early in the morning, so I settled for a cup of coffee and a bowl of clam chowder.

11-07-16_1-41-11-pmI know what you’re thinking.  Clam chowder for breakfast?  And if I was going to just have chowder, why didn’t I go back to the Chowder House?  I’ll tell you why; Bacon.  The Pelican’s clam chowder is full of bacon.  Bacon, cream, potatoes, and clams.  That’s practically breakfast food anyway.

11-07-16_1-42-48-pmBut for some reason, one of the waitresses collected all the dirty dishes, and left them on my table, and on the floor beside me.  No, seriously; a big pile of dirty dishes, stinking up my breakfast.

11-07-16_1-43-13-pmLuckily, her co-worker came running over and cleaned them up, apologizing for the other’s incompetence.  I asked if the other waitress’ name was Meagan and laughed.  The waitress asked me to leave.

11-07-16_1-46-00-pm

I took a stroll over the the Chess Park (!), and had a few games with Katie, a woman I’d met at the library yesterday. She seems nice, married, with a small child, and a love of chess.

11-07-16_1-46-58-pmWe played for a few hours, until I received a phone call from Caitlyn, who invited me down to the gym for a workout.

11-07-16_2-02-52-pmCaitlyn met me at the gym, and we headed in.

11-07-16_2-04-48-pmThe workout felt great.  Caitlyn coached me through a few things, then went off to the punching bags.  I stayed at the machine for a bit, until …

11-07-16_2-05-13-pm… something just didn’t feel right.  I was pretty sure I was about to throw up.  Something about that breakfast chowder wasn’t sitting right.

11-07-16_2-05-44-pmI called the restaurant right away, letting them know that the chowder might have gone off.  They assured me that everything was fine, nobody else was sick, and they were refunding the cost of my meal and another $300 to keep quiet.  I should drink plenty of water.

“Just because!  It’s a great idea.  Drink plenty of water.  Everyone should.  But especially you right now.   Feel better!  Ah!  But not for anything our restaurant or its employees did.  HAVEANICEDAYThankyouforcalling.” <click>

Well, great.  Just as long as I don’t …

11-07-16_2-09-29-pm-2Great.

11-07-16_2-09-50-pmWell, that certainly wasn’t pleasant.  I cleaned myself up, and felt quite a bit better after … letting it all out.  I may just survive this.

11-07-16_2-13-49-pmOut in the hallway, I bumped into a nice man who introduced himself as Bob … something-or-other.  We had a great chat about the gym, and its patrons. I bragged a bit about surviving food poisoning, and he seemed honestly impressed.

11-07-16_2-14-31-pmOh, look who it is.  Meagan.

11-07-16_2-15-07-pmHello…. Meagan.

11-07-16_2-15-15-pm(bitch)

“What?”

“Nothing!  Bench!  Bob here was telling me about the bench.”

“Hmf.”

11-07-16_2-45-12-pmHungry again – finally – I took a trip to a local bar where I ran into Nancy Landgraab, who introduced me to … Sam.  Samuel?  Samuel Something.  Anyway, there wasn’t any food available here, so we both – Sam and I – headed off to the Chowder House for dinner.

11-07-16_2-49-26-pmI ordered the fish and chips (I don’t think I could handle any more chowder), and Sam … Sven?  Martin?  … asked for a burger.

“I’ll have the … sea burger?  Fish burger?  What do you call it?”

“Chicken burger?”

“Yes! That’s it.  With fries please.”

11-07-16_2-49-43-pmI see the Landgraabs eat here too.  That’s good to know.

11-07-16_2-50-30-pmAs we waited for our meal, I took a trip to the washroom to freshen up some. I returned, to see that Maxwell, or Samwell or whatever was not there!

11-07-16_2-50-38-pmSeriously? I mean, it wasn’t a date or anything, but I did pay for food he hadn’t eaten … did he just grab all the food and take off!?

11-07-16_2-51-14-pmAh.  No, he’s just outside, chatting up a couple of women.  Class act, Sam.

11-07-16_2-52-21-pmThe food arrived, and Samwise was actually a decent conversationalist.  However, it turns out he’s a “entrepreneurial music enthusiast”.  An unemployed musician.  Fine.  Well, the meal was nice anyway, and I haven’t got food poisoning from it yet.  I said goodnight to my new friend, and thanked him for a nice evening.

11-07-16_2-57-06-pmBut, morning comes early, as mornings tend to do, and I really should sleep before Monday begins.

11-07-16_3-04-10-pmDamn, this transformed bed is *really* comfy.  Maybe I’ll sell it tomorrow, but not … not, quite… well, maybe.

“We’ll see.”

Aw dammit.  I forgot to call Georgia.

Jeanette, Chapter 7

The La La La Library

11-07-16_11-38-24-amAaahhh… Saturday.  I slept in until noon, and probably wouldn’t have got out of bed then if I didn’t have to use the toilet and shower.  I wonder what kind of mischief I can get in to in a town like … nah, I’m just going to hit the library.

I need to eat first though, and there really isn’t any place open serving breakfasts.  So… off to the Chowder House!  For breakfast.  Maybe I’ll get a chance to talk to Georgia after all.

11-07-16_11-49-52-amI went to the bar, where I’d met Georgia initially, and asked about her.  The bartender had never heard the name before, and didn’t know what I was on about.  I ordered a quick charcuterie tray and a red ale, but insisted that I’d met a different bartender.

“You know… Georgia.  Georgia Knupp.  Blonde hair, tattoos, kinda glows when she’s moody…?”

The bartender gave me my order and made me sit in the corner.

11-07-16_11-50-37-amDammit, what was going on here?  I’ll have to call Georgia later.

11-07-16_11-59-48-amI had decided to spend some time today at the library, reading up on the local history, studying some technical science journ… oh, who am I kidding?  I spent six hours reading true crime novels.

11-07-16_12-00-47-pmI wasn’t alone though, there were quite a few other people hanging around on a Saturday afternoon, pretending to not read true crime novels.

11-07-16_12-15-51-pmI did notice though, that people here just never seem to put their books away.  The librarians here spent a lot of time picking up after everyone.

11-07-16_12-16-01-pmAnd who do these tablets belong to? Why are people coming to the library, not putting books away, leaving their tablets lying about, and just …. go?  Is everyone here that trusting?  Or … forgetful?  Don’t be like all those inconsiderate people, little girl, grow up smarter and better mannered.

11-07-16_12-17-51-pmDammit.  She just left her book where it was.  And there’s two more tablets over there.  I should take them home and sell them online.

It was getting late, so I finished up what I was reading, grabbed a quick bite at the cafe, and returned home for the night.  The thing with Georgia’s still bothering me, but I forgot to call her and it was really running late.  Maybe tomorrow…

Jeanette, Chapter 6

We Came To Dance

11-06-16_5-51-26-pmUp bright and early this morning, feeling great, if a bit hungry.  I’ll be very happy when I can afford things like … a fridge.  A stove, maybe.  Walls.

11-06-16_5-52-08-pm
11-06-16_5-55-36-pmI had plenty of time before work this morning, so I headed over to the cafe for breakfast.

11-06-16_5-56-53-pmWhen I tried ordering, the woman behind the counter announced that she was on a coffee break.  Or a break from coffee, I don’t remember.  I was hungry and under-caffeinated.  I had to wait until her co-worker showed up before I could order a cup and a croissant.

11-06-16_5-59-14-pmTHAT’S better.  I might not kill anyone at work today, Meagan.

11-06-16_6-07-27-pmI sat for a while talking to some of the neighbours, enjoying the company and the coffee.  But, eventually I needed to get to work.

11-06-16_6-42-28-pmIt was “collection day” at the office, which really had me nervous over the return of the aliens.  That happened, right?  I’m not just imagining it, I’m certain.  Anyway, no what they meant was rocks and things.  I was getting quite proficient in digging things up.

11-06-16_6-45-00-pmBut apparently “collecting” also included collecting fish.  I’ve never been fishing in my life, and it wasn’t’ something I had ever put on a list of things I’d wanted to do before I die.

11-06-16_6-45-43-pmBut suddenly there I was, trying to convince fish they needed to come with me.  I figured I’d just sneak up on them when they were trying to sleep, and just pull them out of their home in the water and into my OH MY GOD I’M THE ALIEN!  I’M ABDUCTING FISH.  I put them all back.

11-06-16_6-47-21-pmInside, I watched as Caitlyn broke the computer, then just walked away to play with the microscope.  We’re both going to blame Meagan.

11-06-16_8-50-58-pm“Meagan sure did break that computer, alright,” Caitlyn mentioned.  I needed to upgrade by simray Steve, to include a transformative setting.  Time to see if that works.

11-06-16_8-54-09-pmI decided to try it out on one of the office chairs.  I fired it up, but Summer started talking, distracting me as I let loose.  I’m surprised I didn’t transform the entire building into a potato or some such.

11-06-16_8-54-21-pmWell, that worked.  Nice chair.

11-06-16_8-59-54-pmTime for lunch with Summer, with Meagan pretending not to be listening.  The first week at work is almost over, and while I love my job and – most – of the co-workers, I look forward to the weekend, and blowing off a little steam.

11-06-16_9-03-56-pmAnd hey, it’s Friday night!  The night is relatively young, time to hit the local disco for some fun with the girls!  Georgia showed up with us, but turned and left once she saw the crowd and the lasers.  She said something about “collection night”, and wandered off.

11-06-16_9-05-43-pmThe place was jumping!

11-06-16_9-11-57-pmOh look, there’s Serge.  Wonderful.  Luckily he ignored me and tried dancing with a number of other women, who spent the evening trying to avoid him.

11-06-16_9-10-58-pm

11-06-16_9-08-22-pm
Looking fabulous, ladies.

But, the night was drawing to a close, and after a few hours dancing and hanging with my friends, I really needed to get something to eat, and head to bed.

11-07-16_8-45-58-amWhat a beautiful place, I’m so happy I decided to move here. Luckily there’s a restaurant not far from the club.

11-07-16_8-50-59-amYes, I know it’s quarter past 1 in the morning, Mr Kim, but your sign clearly says “Open”, and so was the door.  And you’re standing here at the front counter.  And the chef is busy in the kitchen, and there are PEOPLE EATING HERE. Stop being such a grump.

(ed. It wasn’t until I was adding these screenshots that I realised I’d turned on “capture the UI” and forgot to turn it off again.  Too late…)

11-07-16_8-51-52-amMenu looks nice, and the prices are reasonable.  Well… reasonable for someone who can afford walls.  It’s going to take a chunk of my bank account, but I really need to eat.

11-07-16_8-57-03-amIt took over an hour for the food to get here, considering there were three people sitting out on the patio, and they already had food.  But finally, it arrived; a nice glass of wine and some poached salmon.

11-07-16_8-58-23-amSigh.  Dinner was fantastic.  So was this fork.  What a great fork.  The waitress took away the dishes, but I asked to keep the fork for a while longer.  I love you, fork.

11-07-16_8-59-41-amTime to get home though.  Four o’clock on a Saturday morning, and I finally hit the streets for the slog back to my pretty lot on the Island.  What a fantastic evening!  Here’s to a weekend off!
