Jeanette, Chapter 22

Sergio, Out!

After an uneventful, alien-less day at work, I received a call from Sergio, asking me out to dinner at the Pelican. “Fine,” I thought.  Maybe I should just give in and start dating this twerp.  He *was* the first person who’d talked to me when I arrived here, but he’s just so … so… Sergio.

Anyway, it’s a nice evening out.

I got in line to book a table, and the place started filling up.

I mean, it’s like everyone arrived at the restaurant at exactly the same time.  Odd.

Anyway, we ordered and had a good chat.  Maybe, Serge isn’t such a twerp after all.

I was telling Sergio about my day at the lab, explaining a little bit about my latest experiments, when he stood up suddenly.

“Uh… just a sec Jeanette, I just…”

“I mean, I um… I need to…”

“Now where’s my … it’s just…”

He left the restaurant, and just kept going. I could still hear him mumbling as he walked away.

Fricken’ jerk. You’re dead to me, Serge.

I paid the bill (thanks Sergio!), and went home to bed.

Jeanette, Chapter 21

Another Day, Another Promotion.

It certainly seems like that anyway.  I guess they really want my to start running thing around here fairly quickly. I’m starting to get suspicious about that.

11-16-16_1-06-50-pmI spent most of the day at work fiddling with the wormhole generator, and only once did Malcolm give me grief about it.  It didn’t last long, and he went away without having to hit him with anything. I don’t understand why he puts up such a fuss about the thing; surely the lab wouldn’t ask me to make the thing if it was inherently dangerous, would they?  No, they wouldn’t.

I’m mostly certain about that.

Once again though, I don’t know if any signal made it through.  There was some noise that could have been an answer, but could have been a seagull passing through the area.  The boss was being particularly cagey today as well.

11-16-16_1-17-39-pmBut in the end, I left the lab with a promotion to Lab Leader, and a swanky new lab coat, complete with an interesting piece of bio-tech that I’ve never seen before, and highly suspect being alien in origin.  I’ve no idea why I need the thing, but it glows warmly and vibrates slightly when in use.  So … could be fun.

11-16-16_1-27-20-pm The lab’s transport system had also delivered a promotion gift, and left this amazing computer-controlled high-tech shower system in my front yard.  It would be nice if they could schedule these things when I’m home, so maybe I can get some help moving the damn thing.

11-16-16_1-29-31-pmLuckily I knew where I could put this.  I had my old shower taken out, and this beauty pit in place.  I was about to check it out when Skylar called again, wanting to go out.  This time I accepted, but made sure she knew it was just dinner with a friend.  I wasn’t interested in dating her, but didn’t want to lose a good friend either.

11-16-16_1-36-30-pm We met down at the Chowder House, of course.  People in this town sure do love their chowder. The place was already quite busy, and it filled up by the time we got a seat, off in the corner.

11-16-16_1-39-01-pm Caitlyn and Teagan were already here, out on a date it looked like.

Skylar and I had a great chat, and some really good fish and chips. We talked about the town, our jobs, and just had a few laughs.

And that’s when she told me she was pregnant.

11-16-16_2-14-22-pmShe mentioned the father’s name, but I don’t recall what it was. I mean, good for her and all.  They’re not married, and she’ll raise the kid on her own.  I couldn’t help but feel some jealousy and … something else… resentment?  Didn’t she call me up just yesterday because she couldn’t get me out of her mind?

The meal ended, we hugged our goodbyes, and Skylar went home.  I spent the rest of the evening at the restaurant’s bar, where I’d met Georgia.  After a few glasses of wine, I got to know the new bartender, Ashley.  But eventually she cut me off, and sent me home.

11-16-16_2-16-45-pmOr, I think she did.  I woke up at home, anyway.  Maybe I was responsible.

HA!  <snort>

Jeanette, Chapter 20

Boop Goes the Generator

I didn’t sleep well, unsurprisingly. Kimberly’s rejection still stung, and I spent a lot of the night wondering what I had done wrong, what I could have done better.  Was I that bad in bed?  I thought we had fun. Or … well, I had fun…  was she just pretend…

… and suddenly it was time to get up for work.  Dammit.

11-15-16_8-34-40-am I made pancakes, and they were goddamn delicious.

Just before leaving for the Lab, I got a phone call.  I thought it might have been Kimberly and proceeded to freak out a little, but it was Skylar.  Skylar?

skylardateOh come on!  What the hell?  Maybe I’m just friggin’ clueless to the signals people send me, but I had no idea Skylar was interested.  I politely declined her offer, insisting that I had Really Important Things To Do at work today.  She seemed to understand.

But seriously; I’ve recently had some bad experiences with women who can’t get me out of their mind, or calls to go out for food just before work, or – let’s face it – breakfast clam chowder.

11-15-16_2-22-35-pmI got into work this morning and had a good talk with Caitlyn, who made me feel a lot better about myself. Malcolm was grumpy about us standing around talking, but he can go stuff a turkey; I needed to vent a little.

11-15-16_2-28-20-pm Good old Robot never let me down either, and we’ve become close over these weeks.  We got to work right away on coming up with a Wormhole Generator.

11-15-16_2-28-52-pmA WORMHOLE GENERATOR!  Okay, life is awesome again.  Oh Robot, if only I could take you home.  You’d never be a jerk to me.

11-15-16_2-31-42-pm I had to spend some time calibrating the thing, just so I don’t accidentally suck the lab into the cold vacuum of space.  Just as soon as I turned it on though….

11-15-16_2-33-52-pm Malcolm Landgraab came running over and began to berate me on the dangers of technology and my recklessness with the fate of the planet and destruction of all humanity and blah blah whatever.

11-15-16_2-34-51-pm <BOOP> He turned it off. We argued for a while about it.

11-15-16_2-35-12-pm Seriously Malcolm, you’re out of line.  Who’s the senior researcher at this lab?  You want to play power games with me?  I JUST HAD TERRIBLE SEX WITH A WOMAN WHO DUMPED ME THE NEXT DAY!

11-15-16_2-35-37-pm You know what?  Go clean something.

11-15-16_2-35-50-pmJerk.  Now, let’s see if we can’t call some aliens on this thing.

11-15-16_2-36-22-pm Well, I tried.  I think I got an answer, but it was really hard to tell.

The boss was excited by the results, but I don’t know if that’s because we did contact aliens, or that we failed to.

11-15-16_3-21-34-pmI made spaghetti that night.  I still had no answer to that question.  It may bug me for years.

Jeanette, Chapter 19

JERK

The day started beautifully. I woke up thinking this was the greatest day ever.  I should have been paying more attention.

11-14-16_2-33-05-pm

We did sleep in.  It was a long, marvelous night of …. getting to know each other. And myself. Who knew? I just doubled my chances of getting a date. Wait… or being rejected for one.  Damn.

11-14-16_2-40-09-pmI made pancakes, Kimberly flirted and told me how perfect I was.

11-14-16_2-41-26-pm Like I say, it started off as a fantastic morning.

11-14-16_2-42-23-pm But the least I can do is cook breakfast for the first person I’ve ever slept with!  I HAD SEX!

11-14-16_2-43-26-pmWuf! Hopefully I was better at that than making these pancakes. Well, I know where to get a good breakfast and some decent coffee.

11-14-16_2-47-11-pm And it’s really only a short walk down the path on this beautiful island.  We held hands, silently enjoying the outdoors, before arriving at the cafe.

11-14-16_2-48-25-pm Don was, apparently, on a break.  I don’t recall him ever actually working here.  Maybe he just likes the outfit and hanging around in coffee bars. Luckily I know how to use one of these things.  Just gimme the coffee.

11-14-16_2-48-55-pm We were both still in a glowy mood. Kimberly let me know she couldn’t wait to get back to the house and spend more time spending time.

11-14-16_2-49-53-pmI suggested a further walk around the island first, to show her a couple of my favourite places. She agreed, asking if there were any more … “private” areas we could visit.  I knew just the place.

There was a decently unknown swimming hole further down the island, with many small, secluded picnic areas surrounding it.  I took her hand, and we meandered down the path through the woods.

11-14-16_2-56-02-pm Arriving at the pool, I was overcome with happiness and satisfaction. I knew I was smitten with Kimberly, and just had to tell her.

And that’s when things went completely off the rails.

11-14-16_2-56-34-pmI asked her to be my girlfriend.

11-14-16_2-56-37-pm She snorted.

11-14-16_2-57-17-pm “Girlfriend?” <giggle> “No no… why would we do that?”

To say that I was stunned would be an understatement.

11-14-16_2-57-36-pm “But… but last night, I thought…”

She laughed!  “Look, I mean, I like you and all, and last night was really…  really… a lot of fun.  But you have to understand…”

11-14-16_2-58-16-pm I think I lost it.

“No!  YOU understand…!”

I kinda blacked out after that, trying to keep it together as I yelled at her.  She kept this patronizingly bemused, sad look on her face as I ranted about my feelings and privacy and anything else that was bugging me since I got to this stupid island.

11-14-16_2-58-19-pm I called her a few things that I’ll probably regret later.  She just sighed sadly, and walked away.

11-14-16_2-58-30-pmFor a brief moment, I felt good for getting that all off my chest.

11-14-16_3-00-54-pmA very brief moment.  It all hit me on the way home; I felt used, and betrayed, and … terrible, and… I just couldn’t think in clear thoughts any more.

11-14-16_3-01-29-pmAs I’d said, it started off as the best day ever.  But it ended with the worst feeling in my life. Adulting shouldn’t be this painful.

11-14-16_3-01-56-pm I curled up in a ball and cried myself to sleep, where I stayed for a few hours.

11-14-16_3-04-15-pmWhen I woke up, I was feeling better about things.  Not … completely fine, but better.  Kimberly was still a giant jerk, but I wasn’t going to keep that from hurting so much.  I was still doing well, and the night before was still a lot of fun.  She didn’t ruin dating for me, just dating her.

I swore that – next time – I’ll find out someone’s commitment levels before I suggest one of my own.  Adult stuff.

11-14-16_3-04-49-pmI cleaned up the awful pancakes I’d made her earlier (maybe if she’d just choked on them… Augh!  No… stop it Jeanette…), and started to look around the place.  Maybe, it’s time for another change.  I had some spare time, and a chunk of cash in my purse; time for some added space, I think.

11-14-16_3-40-32-pm I expanded the main room and kitchen, giving a little more breathing space.

11-14-16_3-41-44-pm Then added some kitchen cabinets!  It’s starting to look a little more grown-up over here.  A new stove, a new fridge, and I had the sink moved off the island.

11-14-16_3-42-11-pm With more space, I moved the chair out into the main room, for a nice place to sit and read.

11-14-16_3-42-32-pm Replaced all those awful plain interior doors, to match the exterior.

11-14-16_3-42-51-pm Added some space to the bedroom, and reorganised the furniture.

11-14-16_3-43-09-pm And finally, a back door!  Out to …

11-14-16_3-43-28-pm…well, the back.  Okay, it’s a small house, but it still felt good to know there’s another exit, for the next time I set fire to something.  From several thousand dollars, I finished the day with a grand total of $84 in the bank.  Thankfully there’s work in the morning.

As this horrid day of extreme emotions came to a close, I could only think that I’d grown a lot.  Not an experience I want to repeat, but a learning one.  I guess.

Kimberly’s still a jerk.

Jeanette, Chapter 18

A first date, and more…

I slept in until almost 11 on Saturday morning, and regret nothing. I likely would have slept longer, but the phone woke me.  Kimberly called, saying that she couldn’t stop thinking of me <blush!>, and we should spend the remainder of the day together.  I suggested the park for a while, to which she agreed.

11-14-16_1-24-48-pm I was good to see her again, but I was naturally nervous. An older woman, very interested in me?  This is not where I thought my life was going.

11-14-16_1-27-53-pm We hung out talking for a good hour or so, taking in the park, seeing other friends, and just getting to know each other more.  She did her fair share of flirting, which felt fantastic to be honest.

11-14-16_1-36-47-pmA couple of games of chess, with some good conversation, and we’d decided to head over to the mall for some shopping.

11-14-16_1-46-43-pm Wait…. this is where Landgraab works?  In a retail clothing store?  They’ve been waiving their money around, but she works here, and Malcolm works at the lab as a junior assistant.  They must be running into hard times.

11-14-16_1-48-31-pm We tried on a few things, but nothing really stood out as “me”.

11-14-16_1-51-03-pm Lolnope.

11-14-16_1-51-55-pm I had this rather unflattering outfit on when I noticed Kimberly out on the sidewalk, texting on her phone.

11-14-16_1-53-08-pmApparently, she was checking her reservations at Chez Llama!  I had heard plenty of great things about the high-class restaurant, but had never had the chance to get in.  But, here we were, off on a real, honest-to-pete, nerve-wracking date, at the most expensive restaurant in town.

Deep breaths, Jeanette; you’ve got this.

I ran home to get changed into something nice, something fancy to match the evening, then met Kimberly at the front door of Chez Llama.  Kimberly gave her name at the front desk, and we were escorted to our table.

11-14-16_2-03-38-pm Well… booth.  I guess even fancy expensive restaurants have seating for common folk.

11-14-16_2-03-50-pm I had no idea what most of the things on the menu were, but I recognised wine.  I tried ordering the cardboardeaux, but Kimberly insisted on the more expensive wine.  Well, okay.

11-14-16_2-06-14-pm Supper came, and it was the weirdest, most confusing looking dish I’d ever had placed in front of me.  But it tasted fantastic, and the wine was absolutely amazing.  It appears Kimberly knows stuff about wine.  I fear I’ll be spending a lot more on wine from now on.

11-14-16_2-13-24-pmThere was plenty of flirting as well, along with several suggestive statements, and an innuendo or two.

11-14-16_2-13-25-pmOr three.

11-14-16_2-19-10-pmPlus dessert, and more wine.  Kimberly was thoroughly confused by the things she was tasting.

When the cheque arrived, we argued about it – good-naturedly, of course – and eventually I convinced her that my recent promotion left me with some extra cash and a reason to celebrate.  She reluctantly agreed, and insisted that I would let her pay next time.

I paid the bill, and we gathered our coats. As we were leaving, and with shaking voice, I invited her back to my place for the evening.

“Of course,” she said, smiling.

11-14-16_2-22-02-pm It was quite late when we got back to the house, but I was determined to see this evening through.

11-14-16_2-23-39-pm “Would you like to … um.  Spend the night?”

“I’d love to.”

11-14-16_2-26-14-pm After another drink of slightly cheaper wine and some more conversation, I finally had enough courage to make my move.

11-14-16_2-26-19-pm Woo!  The butterflies were still practicing their drum-line routine in my gut, but Kimberly was very patient with the time it took me, but it was the greatest kiss in my life.  She returned it passionately. I’m sure she was turned on by all the lab equipment in my living room.

11-14-16_2-27-10-pm I was exhausted but eager. I motioned to the bedroom, and she returned my smile with a nod.

11-14-16_2-27-23-pm Well then.

11-14-16_2-28-00-pmAAAAHHHH!  Okay.  Okay!  I can do this.

11-14-16_2-28-11-pm I’m sure everything… I just…

11-14-16_2-28-23-pmLet’s leave it there, shall we?

chapter 19 …

Jeanette, Chapter 17

Lab of Confusion

Sometimes I just don’t understand what happens around here.  We’re theoretically a scientific research centre, but we have a spaceship under construction (apparently only by me, as it turns out), and are frequently contacted by aliens.  I’ve been tasked with building a mind-controlling ray gun, and drinks that will make you feel all sorts of weird things.

But every once in a while, strangers in street clothes are walking around like they belong here.  And then, when the strangers poking around are people (or not) that you actually know, it becomes a really weird day.

11-14-16_10-15-22-am Meagan has been gone for some time now, and I thought she’d been let go.  Today she walked in without lab coat or proper ID, and began playing with the equipment.  I guess she was transferred to another lab, but still I had no clue what she was doing here.

11-14-16_10-18-12-am Just don’t freakin’ break anything, Meagan.

11-14-16_10-20-17-am Another surprise visitor was Georgia, messing with the analytical gear.  She certainly knew what she was doing, and management didn’t seem concerned with her actions.

“Hey!  What’s up, Georgia?”

11-14-16_10-20-24-am“Oh!  It’s you!  What are you… Hi Jeanette!”

11-14-16_10-22-09-am-2I missed her. I hadn’t seen her since … hey!  Wait!  Georgia is an alien in disguise!  Does this mean we’re working closely with the aliens now? Does anyone else know she’s not human?

11-14-16_10-22-53-am Oh jeez!  What about Meagan!?  Does that explain her actions and disappearance all this time?  She’s actually an … of course she is, why didn’t I see that before.  I bet I can get answers from her somehow.

11-14-16_10-24-05-am Just a quick blast from my trusty Steve…

11-14-16_10-24-18-am Oh crap, wrong setting.  Did Meagan always have a full arm tattoo?  How had I not noticed that previously?

11-14-16_10-25-42-amShe wasn’t impressed with my meddling, and began getting angry. She threatened to have me fired, I threatened to expose her secret, she claimed she didn’t have one, I hit her again with the simray….

11-14-16_10-25-45-am Things may have got out out of control.

11-14-16_10-27-45-am But at least she wasn’t yelling.

11-14-16_10-28-23-am Oh fine, okay…. I’ll get her out of there.  The boss wasn’t impressed either.

11-14-16_10-28-35-amJust a little more, maybe one good one right… oh!  Right; I should do this with eyes open.  Her time on ice had cooled her temper some, and I did still have some work to do, so I left her to warm up.  Maybe now she’ll leave, or at least behave herself.

11-14-16_10-33-41-am Goddamnit Meagan!

11-14-16_10-35-02-amI thought the manager was going to chew her out, but instead he complimented her skin tone, and praised her work ethic.  I thought I was going to barf.

At the end of the day, she had broken two pieces of equipment and the computer, then left without a word. Back to her planet, or mothership, or whichever hole she hides in.  Just so long as she’s gone.  I need to get out.

11-14-16_11-09-29-am I went home to change, and took a cab down to the local disco.  Some dancing and flirting was exactly what I needed.  Or, wanted, anyway.

11-14-16_11-10-47-am But the place was fairly dead. A couple of the usual group, but not the crowd I was expecting.  Nobody new.

11-14-16_11-11-43-am I was about an hour before anyone else showed up, but even then it wasn’t the throng I’d expected, and none of my friends were anywhere to be seen.  But that’s right about when Caitlyn called.

Everyone was down at the ruins for a Friday night bash, and she told me I totally needed to be there.  I totally agreed, and took off.

11-14-16_11-13-36-amSome of the group at the disco heard as well, and by the time I arrived and met Caitlyn, the place was filling up.

11-14-16_11-14-10-am However, it was already getting late, and I hadn’t eaten anything.  I knew just what would help me out here, and downed a dose of something we’d been working on.  It would keep me going for the rest of the night.

11-14-16_11-17-53-am And go we did!  The DJ was pumping out great dance tunes, everyone was dancing up a storm.

11-14-16_11-26-19-am A couple of drinks, some more dancing, loud shouty conversations with cool people; it was a great night out.

11-14-16_11-24-00-amHours later, exhausted, I went home.  The weekend had arrived already, and I wanted some sleep before all that nothing I had to do tomorrow.

Jeanette, Chapter 16

A Week In The Life

The biggest problem with working through the week, is that you have to spend most of your time working, through the week.  The week went by quickly and uneventfully, for the most part, and I really didn’t get a chance to get out much.  However, focusing on the career meant securing two promotions over five days.  I’m sure that’s worth it, I keep telling myself.

I talked to Kimberly a few times, but we never got a chance to go out for the evening.  I was just too tired after work to head out.

monday_1 After work on Monday, I returned home to find … well, a giant specimen tank.  On the front lawn.  The lab had sent it over as a reward for all my hard work, but I’d honestly rather have the money.

monday_2 I mean; look at the thing!  I don’t have space to spare, but they keep giving me this free lab equipment.  For now, I put it out back, “hoping” that nobody’s going to steal the thing.

Who am I kidding?  Anybody stupid enough to steal a huge empty specimen tank deserves to have it.

tues_1 On Tuesday, I upgraded my SimRay Steve, and spent a few hours making everyone change their clothes.  Pointless, stupid fun.

tues_2 tues_3 PJs for everyone!

wed_1 On Thursday, I nearly burned the lab down after an experiment went horribly awry.  Singed my eyebrows pretty bad, and needed a shower and new lab coat.

wed_2The lab sent me home to rest, with a suggestion that I work out some dexterity issues.  I bought a workbench on the way, figuring it could help.  Or, I’d bleed to death after a disastrous slip with a chisel.

Thursday ended without mishap, and I was starting to anticipate another weekend.  But that’s when Friday happened.

Jeanette, Chapter 15

Renos, and a New Girl?

Sitting at the breakfast … stool… this morning, I just couldn’t handle the original brick any longer.  So, with a quick phone call and no small amount of cash, I resurfaced the interior and exterior walls.

11-11-16_3-09-47-pm I think it looks pretty good.

11-11-16_3-10-07-pmAfter that, I figured it was time to get out of the house for the remainder of this beautiful day.  I took a trip to the new park over in Newcrest.

11-11-16_3-18-38-pmNice place, with lots of amenities and places to hang out.

11-11-16_3-19-52-pmAnd a bar.  You gotta love a park with a bar.

11-11-16_3-28-05-pm Caitlyn’s wife Teagan was hanging around, making veggie burgers. As I finished up collecting rare gems, Teagan invited me over for a bite.

11-11-16_3-28-45-pm Cassandra was invited too, but instead she just stood around moping about things.  Seriously kid, you’re a downer.  But then Creepy Guy showed up, with a serious shine on for Teagan.

11-11-16_3-29-03-pm Nobody invited him, and we all really tried to ignore him.  I was torn between trying to be friendly, and asking him to *please* stop staring at Teagan and breathing heavily. “Hi,” he’d say.  “Hi.   Hi.”

11-11-16_3-29-40-pmI tried answering him, but was met with silence and glares.  Teagan managed to ignore him completely, and eventually we all left him sitting there with the burgers, and went our ways.

I went home for a while, to do some reading and catching up on the household chores.  Just as I was thinking of dinner, I got a call from Kimberly, who wanted to know if I’d like to head out to eat.

11-11-16_3-56-12-pm I met her down at the Pelican, which is seriously starting to feel like a second home.  Oh… third, I guess, after the lab.

11-11-16_3-56-30-pmI spotted Myron, out on the deck, on a date. Hrmph.

11-11-16_4-02-40-pm I had a great time with Kimberly. She made it no secret that she was interested in me, which is something I’d not considered much.  But still… the attention felt good, after all the jerks I’ve been trying to date.

11-11-16_4-02-58-pm 11-11-16_4-08-04-pmA couple of glasses of wine and some desert later, we realised we’d talked well into the night. I needed to work in the morning. Again, apparently.  Didn’t I work last week?

11-11-16_4-09-47-pm I thanked her for an amazing evening, but schlepped my way back to the island.

11-11-16_4-10-26-pm

I should get a car.

Jeanette, Chapter 14

The Day Bar

Ah!  The weekend!  I spent most of Saturday morning asleep, then puttered around the house for a while. The night before was a lot of fun, and I really needed more of that.

11-11-16_1-15-15-pm So, later that afternoon, I headed out to the lounge in Oasis Springs.  Maybe the crowd there will be a little different, meet some new faces.

11-11-16_1-17-14-pmOkay, so “crowd” wasn’t the right word. Perhaps I shouldn’t start drinking at 2 in the afternoon, but … meh.  For the first half hour or so, the only other person in the place was one old woman, sitting at the bar, reading.  Then young Santa here showed up.  I thought it was going to be one of THOSE nights.

11-11-16_1-18-23-pm Eventually, other folk started arriving.  I still needed to do some serum testing, and figured that tonight would be as good a time as any, so I downed one of the Flirty Juice things.  Time to get into a mood.

11-11-16_1-23-08-pm Hey.  How YOU…

11-11-16_1-23-14-pmOh.  Okay.

11-11-16_1-29-05-pm Fine.  Well, I’m going to socialise with whomever I can.  I’m feeling all flirty-like, and *someone* is going to eventually reciprocate. You jerks.

11-11-16_1-33-09-pm Later in the evening Myron dropped in, and introduced me to Kimberly. We’d bumped into each other previously, at the library mostly, but I don’t think I’d ever actually spoken with her.  “Great”, I thought.  “Finally meet another guy, and he’s not single.”  Could have told me that last night.  Jerk.  However, it turns out that they’re just friends.

11-11-16_1-30-20-pmSo while Baldy there ignored my advances, (yet he still just kept hanging around) I turned my charm on to … dammit!  Myron left.  Young Santa’s just not my type.

Meanwhile, the comedian was just killing it!

11-11-16_1-34-08-pm Killing it!  Get it!?  Yeah, sorry.  Anyway, this guy died.

11-11-16_1-34-39-pm The comedian began rethinking her career choices.

11-11-16_1-40-27-pm So while many of the older locals mourned the loss of … the old-now-dead guy, I had no idea who he was, nor did Kimberly or Skylar.

11-11-16_1-43-26-pmEventually, Grim left with the guy’s soul, and the place emptied. I suppose nobody wanted to party any longer after that show-stopper.  Skylar, Kimberly, and I stayed late into the night talking about it, and many other things.  After all that, Kim was the only one who actually flirted at me.   She was older than I – by quite a bit, I think – but seemed to know what she wanted. It was nice, but weird.

I gave up, and went home.

Jeanette, Chapter 13

A Date Gone Awry

11-11-16_9-36-40-am At work the next morning, I confronted Caitlyn about her actions the day before. She was very apologetic, but had received a call just before arriving at the cafe. It seems that the lab had been contacted by aliens, and she was needed at once. It was above my pay grade, so I wasn’t needed.  I don’t know why Shelley was hanging around outside the lab today, but there she was.

11-11-16_9-37-13-amI forgave Caitlyn for taking off on me, and we hugged it out.

The rest of the day at worked passed uneventfully, and I left feeling good about my job.  When I arrived at home, Rashawn called me up (Sam’s name was Rashawn) and invited me out to the Shrieking Llama for drinks and games.

11-11-16_10-26-17-am“Absolutely!” I said.  It sounded like fun.

11-11-16_10-46-11-am It wasn’t.  At least, not to begin with.  Ol’ Rashawn spent the first hour or so watching the soccer match. His team wasn’t doing well, from what I understand.  There was a lot of yelling and cursing, and mother-llama-ing the referees. Eventually, whichever sports club he was cheering for lost their game, and the bar staff turned on the figure skating competition.

11-11-16_10-46-22-amRashawn wasn’t happy, and he left shortly thereafter.  Jerk.  Well, that was your last chance buddy.  Don’t call me again.

11-11-16_10-47-41-amAnd that’s when Myron spotted me. Or, at least that’s when I spotted Myron spotting me. He bought me a drink, and let me know that the guy I came in with was a jerk. Preaching to the choir, my friend, but thanks.

11-11-16_10-50-26-am He challenged me to a game of foosball, to which I accepted. I needed to whack at things and blow off some steam.

11-11-16_11-07-41-am The game was wicked.  We were evenly matched, and the bar patrons started noticing.

11-11-16_11-09-46-amEventually he beat me with a score of 21-20.  By the time we finished, the bar was closing up, and I was exhausted.  I headed home to bed, alone still, but feeling good.
