Boop Goes the Generator
I didn’t sleep well, unsurprisingly. Kimberly’s rejection still stung, and I spent a lot of the night wondering what I had done wrong, what I could have done better. Was I that bad in bed? I thought we had fun. Or … well, I had fun… was she just pretend…
… and suddenly it was time to get up for work. Dammit.
I made pancakes, and they were goddamn delicious.
Just before leaving for the Lab, I got a phone call. I thought it might have been Kimberly and proceeded to freak out a little, but it was Skylar. Skylar?
Oh come on! What the hell? Maybe I’m just friggin’ clueless to the signals people send me, but I had no idea Skylar was interested. I politely declined her offer, insisting that I had Really Important Things To Do at work today. She seemed to understand.
But seriously; I’ve recently had some bad experiences with women who can’t get me out of their mind, or calls to go out for food just before work, or – let’s face it – breakfast clam chowder.
I got into work this morning and had a good talk with Caitlyn, who made me feel a lot better about myself. Malcolm was grumpy about us standing around talking, but he can go stuff a turkey; I needed to vent a little.
Good old Robot never let me down either, and we’ve become close over these weeks. We got to work right away on coming up with a Wormhole Generator.
A WORMHOLE GENERATOR! Okay, life is awesome again. Oh Robot, if only I could take you home. You’d never be a jerk to me.
I had to spend some time calibrating the thing, just so I don’t accidentally suck the lab into the cold vacuum of space. Just as soon as I turned it on though….
Malcolm Landgraab came running over and began to berate me on the dangers of technology and my recklessness with the fate of the planet and destruction of all humanity and blah blah whatever.
<BOOP> He turned it off. We argued for a while about it.
Seriously Malcolm, you’re out of line. Who’s the senior researcher at this lab? You want to play power games with me? I JUST HAD TERRIBLE SEX WITH A WOMAN WHO DUMPED ME THE NEXT DAY!
You know what? Go clean something.
Jerk. Now, let’s see if we can’t call some aliens on this thing.
Well, I tried. I think I got an answer, but it was really hard to tell.
The boss was excited by the results, but I don’t know if that’s because we did contact aliens, or that we failed to.
I made spaghetti that night. I still had no answer to that question. It may bug me for years.
